Kan Body Protector

Kan Body Protector User Information

Fitting

To benefit from the protection offered by your body protector, you should ensure that impact protection is sited over the areas that it is designed to protect, that no discomfort is caused by the garment when you are in a riding position and that you are able to maintain a full range of movements. When correctly worn, a body protector should cover the following areas of the body:

  • The whole circumference of the torso
  • The bottom edge should be not less than 25 mm below the rib cage anteriorly, and should reach the pelvis laterally
  • Posteriorly, the edge should be not less than 15 cm below the level of the top of the pelvis on an average adult
  • The arm inlet should be approximately circular and of minimum dimensions
  • The top of the back of the protector should just reach the level of the seventh cervical vertebra (the prominent bone at the base of the neck)
  • The front of the protector should reach the top of the sternum
  • The body protector and shoulder protector should between them cover the lateral 75% of the collar bone.

Do not remove the shoulder protectors – they are an integral part of the protective garment and must be worn at all times.

Location And Adjustment

Put the body protector on as you would a normal jacket. If the Velcro shoulder fastening has been opened, secure firmly. The body protector may have reduced thickness over the shoulder.

Close the body protector at the front using the main zip fastening. There should be no gaps between the front and back of the body protector with an overlap at the sides of approximately 5cm. The body protector should be a snug, close fit.

The front and back neckline should not come into contact with the neck in any riding position.

The protector should cover the bottom of your ribs and coccyx by a minimum of 25 mm, but not so low that it is being pushed up against the thighs or saddle when in riding position.

If, despite following the above instructions, you are unable to obtain a comfortable, secure fit, an alternative size may be required.

Cleaning

Outer cover: Hand wash cycle (40 C) with a proprietary washing powder at 40 C. Allow to drip dry. Cool iron.

Impact foam: Wipe with lukewarm water only and allow to air dry. Do not tumble dry or iron. Do not dry clean or use solvents.

Material content: Outer cover 85% Nylon/15% elastane (lining 100% polyester). Impact foam polyurethane. These materials are not known to contain anything that might cause an allergic reaction or be dangerous to health.

Storage And Transportation

Place on a clothes-hanger, or lay flat in a clean, dry place, and store in a dry, well-ventilated environment away from direct sunlight and extremes of temperature. Do not place heavy objects on top of the garment, as these may cause damage or misshape the foam.

WARNING: The foam in your body protector is sensitive to extreme temperatures, which may reduce its protective properties. Any alteration, incorrect cleaning or misuse may also be detrimental to the protective performance of your body protector.

Maintenance And Obsolescence

Frequent visual inspection should be made for signs of obvious wear, especially after any accident. A severe fall can result in some cell damage of the foam, obvious signs of which would be reduced thickness (indentations) or a change in the feel of the foam. The garment should be replaced if in any doubt.

Use With Other Personal Protective Equipment

Body protectors are part of the protective equipment ensemble available for use by horse riders, and are intended to be used with a USG safety helmet, along with fitted or separate eye protection where there is a risk of eye injuries.

Where this body protector features attachment points for fitment of shoulder protectors, it is strongly recommended that where these are worn, they are also type approved and CE marked in accordance with the requirements of EN 13158, or other documents of equal status.
