Sealskinz Winter Riding Gloves

SealSkinz Winter Riding Gloves give the rider cold weather comfort and are designed specifically for horse riding in colder conditions.  There is no need to suffer when it's freezing cold.  With the right gloves, you can tack up and be off on a hack and your hands will still be warm and dry.

The glove employs a special membrane made from Porelle which is laminated between the inner & outer material and makes the glove both waterproof & breathable.  The value of the membrane being breathable is that moisture is encouraged to escape, thus stopping it condensing on the inside of the glove, leaving the hand 'wet from within' and feeling cold.

An additional benefit is the gloves can be machine washed (40°C max).  The best way to dry them,  is to turn them inside out and dry them in the airing cupboard or drip dry overnight

Other manufacturers use a coating to achieve roughly comparable results.  However coatings are not always durable, and can be damaged during repeated washing and flexing wear.

Why is this membrane important?  A primary means for heat loss from hands is conduction. This occurs when there is a temperature difference between the hand (the heat source) and the external colder environment. Heat loss is slowed by the gloves material. Air is a poor conductor of heat, and consequently an efficient insulator. Water conducts heat 24 times more effectively than air, and is therefore a poor insulator.
